Donald Glover Talking About Son on Jimmy Kimmel

Donald Glover May Be in The Lion King, but His Toddler’s More Excited For Beyoncé

Donald Glover's son, Legend, may only be a toddler, and he may not watch TV, but the boy sure does know who Beyoncé is. And the 35-year-old actor was surprised to know that she may be the reason his son wants to go see the rebooted, live-action The Lion King, in which Donald voices Simba and Bey voices Nala. In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live — wearing a full lion suit — Donald recounted the whole hilarious conversation he had with Legend about the new movie, and we can't stop laughing.

"My son, he loves The Lion King, he's a big, big fan, and of animals in general. He can run faster on all fours than two feet. That's not a joke," Donald told Jimmy. "I didn't want to tell him, 'Oh I'm Simba,' [because] this is probably the only time in history this will happen where the kid knows the movie and his father is the [main character]."

So the actor decided he'd "play it cool" and not tell Legend — who doesn't watch TV but watches a movie a week if he wants to — about his role in the film. "Yesterday I was like, 'Hey, you want to go see The Lion King?' just to see if he might notice my voice . . . and he was like, 'Oh, sure. Beyoncé's in it, right?' And I was like, 'How did you know that? But also, Daddy's in it! I'm in it, too!' I'm just saying, Beyoncé has people who haven't even seen television loving her. She's incredible."

When Jimmy, through laughter, asked how Legend even knows Beyoncé, Donald says he has no clue and that he tried to find out but to no avail. "I think it might enter through the umbilical cord," Jimmy suggested of people's general knowledge of Queen Bey. We think you're right, Jimmy. See Donald's entire interview in the video above, and catch The Lion King in theatres beginning July 19!
