Girl Gets Kicked Out of School For Hair Extensions
This 6th-Grade Girl Was Kicked Out of School Because Her Hairstyle Violated Dress Code
A video of a preteen girl getting kicked out of school for violating a dress-code rule about hair is sparking outrage. Faith Fennidy attends a private Catholic school called Christ the King Parish School in Louisiana, and on her first day of sixth grade, she was sent to the office and eventually escorted out of the school because of her hair, which was pulled back and in braids.
Faith walked out of the school in tears alongside her parents and her brother, Steven, who began filming the incident and shared the video on Facebook. He wrote, "I hate that I have to post this. But this just isn't right. This is an issue we tried to resolve with the school, but they won't compromise at all."
The school's policy states that "only the students' natural hair is permitted," and Faith's "violation" is her extensions. Steven explained, "My sister Faith and many little black girls wear extensions. She's been attending this school for two years and wearing extensions. Over the Summer, the school has sneakily added in a policy that no extensions, clip-ins, or weaves are allowed. Extensions make the hair easier to maintain. It allows my sister to have access to the swimming pool without having to get her hair redone every night. How do you make a policy without even having a discussion?"
Needless to say, many people are upset and feel terrible that the 11-year-old experienced such a frustrating, and undoubtedly embarrassing, moment at school.
