Jennifer Garner on Jimmy Fallon Talking About Kayaking Trip

Jennifer Garner Shares How She and Her Daughter Were Almost Lost at Sea, and It’s Freakin’ Hilarious

Jennifer and her kids at her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in August.

Jennifer Garner might be a Hollywood star, but she's usually just like every other mom out there — like the time she wore the giant scarf her daughter knit for her in public proudly. And while her latest story, which began with taking her 12-year-old daughter to Sweden might not be the most relatable, it's freakin' hilarious.

On The Tonight Show, Jennifer told Jimmy Fallon (who was feeling a little fragile after his 5-year-old went to Kindergarten for the first time) that her daughter, Violet — who looks like her actual twin — had to complete a country report on Sweden at the end of sixth grade. "She was so into it that I just said, 'You know what, I'm going to take you for four or five days to Sweden, just the two of us,'" she told Jimmy. And when they got there, they decided to take a kayaking trip — which is when things took a turn.

"We saw people kayaking outside of Stockholm," she said. "We do the big island in record time. . . And then they said, 'This [part] will take you 10 minutes.' We did it, except an hour later, we were not back. And not only that, all of a sudden there were huge bridges going over, big boats, and it went from very small to quite wide. And then Violet said, 'Mom, there's a stoplight in the water,' . . . and through that stoplight, it's a lock to the ocean. And so then, we start feeling a current pulling us to the ocean! I'm with my baby and I just was like, 'La, la, la, let's sing Mamma Mia!, we're in Sweden!"

As Jimmy recovers from heaving with laughter over Jennifer's soundtrack of choice as she and Violet were nearly lost at sea, Jennifer explains that she was able to call someone for help. After describing where they were, the person said, "Ya, no, turn around!" Finally, after working hard to paddle back to where they came from, Jennifer describes seeing a "blond human with the sun behind him like a halo," Matteus, who showed up to rescue them. What a tale! Hear her entire LOL-worthy story — complete with sound effects and paddling motions — in the video ahead.
