Kid Loves Sugar So Much He Hid Packets in a Hollowed-Out Breadstick, and Holy Sh*t, I'm Dying

When Peter Hartlaub told his Twitter followers that he had "The most Shawshank Redemption story [1] you'll hear today," I don't think anyone could have quite guessed exactly what he had to say. Apparently Peter's youngest son loves stealing sugar packets from restaurants to eat later, but since the 10-year-old knows that his parents will now check his pockets after a meal out, he had to get creative. Like, really creative.

"My younger son tries to sneak sugar packets out of restaurants and eat them in the car," Peter wrote in his tweet. "We've taken to checking his pockets, so he stuffed five of them in a hollowed-out breadstick."

L-O-L.

The dad followed up his first tweet — which shared two photos of the sugar-filled breadstick — by explaining how his son was able to get away with his plan. "It was a family event with 60 or so people. I'm guessing whoever was sitting near him thought it was hilarious and covered for him," Peter wrote. (I probably would have done the same, to be honest.)

The original tweet from Aug. 21 has garnered thousands of retweets and likes, but it's the hundreds of replies — most of which also nod to Shawshank Redemption — that are cracking us up.
