"Lockdown" Song For School Shooting Drills

This Kindergarten "Lockdown" Song – to the Tune of a Classic Lullaby – Will Destroy You

When Georgy Cohen visited the kindergarten classroom her child will be attending during the upcoming school year, she wasn't prepared for what she saw hanging on the chalkboard. The poster – taped up aside another one displaying the alphabet – was filled with large, clearly printed letters in varying colours. It looked innocent enough at first glance, but when the Massachusetts mom read the words, what she discovered was far more distressing: they were lyrics to a song about what these five-year-olds needed to do in the event of a school shooting lockdown.

"This should not be hanging in my soon-to-be-kindergartener's classroom," Georgy wrote on Twitter.

The lyrics, sung to the tune of classic lullaby "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," are as follows:

Lockdown. Lockdown.
Lock the door.

Shut the lights off.
Say no more.

Go behind the desk and hide.
Wait until it's safe inside.

Lockdown. Lockdown.
It's all done.
Now it's time to have some fun!

If this image doesn't shed a harsh light on what school shootings are doing to our children, it's hard to imagine what will.
