Cha-Ching! Those Old McDonald's Happy Meal Toys Lying Around the House Could Be Worth a Fortune

Parents who never quite got around to donating all their kiddo's old toys [1] might be in luck. Believe it or not, there's a huge market for old-school McDonald's happy meal toys [2], and that could mean big bucks for anyone with a few vintage finds lying around.

Gary Sohmers, an antiques appraiser, told Today that a lot of things can affect the value of a collectible. "As with any collectibles category, the main factors of value are supply and demand [3], impacted often by a 'nostalgia curve' based on generational change and new media."

He added that: "McDonald's collectibles have been led by franchise owners and longtime customers or employees whose loyalty to the brand supersedes market logic at times, along with the cross-marketing with other high-demand categories like Disney, Hot Wheels, and current media hits."

According to the site loveantiques.com [4], some toys are more valuable than others, with TY's Teenie Beanie Boos and Underwater Creatures heading up the top of the list. So if you have a few boxes in your attic or basement you've been meaning to sort through, now might be the time to cash out.
