For the first time ever, Pink is opening up about suffering a miscarriage as a teenager. In a recent interview with USA Today about her new album Hurts 2B Human [1], the singer explained how the lead single of the same name references the deeply personal matter. In the song, Pink sings, "Since I was 17, I've always hated my body / and it feels like my body's hated me."
Pink said, "The reason I said [that] is because I've always had this very tomboy, very strong gymnast body, but actually at 17 I had a miscarriage." She added, "And I was going to have that child. But when that happens to a woman or a young girl, you feel like your body hates you and like your body is broken, and it's not doing what it's supposed to do."
"It's important to talk about what you're ashamed of."
The mom to 7-year-old Willow Sage and 2-year-old Jameson Moon went on to share that she has unfortunately experienced "several miscarriages since." On why she is opening up about her miscarriages, Pink said, "I think it's important to talk about what you're ashamed of, who you really are and the painful [expletive]. I've always written that way."
At the suggestion of a friend, Pink said she decided to go to therapy [3] five years later and has been seeing the same therapist since. "What I love about therapy is that they'll tell you what your blind spots are. Although that's uncomfortable and painful, it gives you something to work with," she said. In addition, Pink attends couples counseling with her husband, Carey Hart [4]. She recently told Today, "It's the only reason we're still together."
