By the looks of Pink's and Carey Hart's social media accounts, bringing two little kids on a world tour [1] is no easy feat. In a recent Instagram post [2], Carey shared that his 1-year-old son Jameson is suffering from hand-foot-and-mouth disease, a mild — but contagious — viral infection [3] that's common in little kids and characterized by sores in the mouth, a rash on the hands and feet, and a fever. To make matters even worse, Willow also has a fever.
"Wanna know how glamorous tour can be? Jameson has hand-foot-and-mouth; and Willow has a 102 temp," wrote Carey. "Both kids laid up and mama still has to push through and do shows. I had Jameson at breakfast yesterday and this vile woman at the table next to us kept staring at him with a sh*tty look on her face. I told her it was bed bugs."
We love these parents' honesty and we wish Jameson a speedy recovery! Although the logistics of caring for sick kids while travelling is no easy feat, parents should note that kids are the most contagious within the fist seven days of contracting HFM disease. According to WebMD [4], the virus can stay in a child's body for days or weeks after the symptoms go away, so be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after changing a dirty diaper or wiping a runny nose. And because of how contagious hand-foot-and-mouth disease can be, moms and dads should refrain from putting their kids back in school until the symptoms are completely gone – it usually clears up on its own between seven to 10 days, according to the Mayo Clinic.
