Pitcher Hugs Friend After Striking Him Out in Championship

Instead of Celebrating the Win With His Team, This Pitcher Ran to Hug the Batter He Struck Out

As most baseball fans know, game-winning runs normally end in a team celebration at home plate, and in the case of game-winning strike outs, a party on the pitcher's mound. But when Ty Koehn, a pitcher on the Mounds View High School baseball team, struck out the final batter between his team and the Minnesota state championship, rather than join his teammates on his own mound, he ran straight to home plate to console the defeated batter, his childhood friend, Jack Kocon.

"We are very close friends," Ty told Bring Me the News. "I knew him from all the way back when we were 13. We were on the same little league team. It was tough when we went to separate schools but we kept in touch."

Speaking about the game and his and Jack's hug, Ty, who is who is the epitome of sportsmanship, added: "I knew the game was going to keep going or it was going to end right there. I knew I had to say something. Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated. It was more instinct, it just felt right."

We're not crying, you're crying.
