This 42-Year-Old Mother of 3 Is the First Mom to Make American Ninja Warrior History

25/06/2019 - 10:55 PM

Moms are some of the strongest people in the world, and Sandy Zimmerman's strength just earned her the title of American Ninja Warrior. During Monday night's episode of American Ninja Warrior, the mother of three became the first mom ever to complete the course. She's also the first woman to hit the buzzer this season and the oldest woman to complete the course. For Zimmerman, the win was even sweeter because the episode was taped the day before Mother's Day [1]!

"I had no idea the growth that I would have and just how much fun my whole family would have on this crazy journey," Zimmerman said in an interview with The Spokesman-Review, thanking her family [2], which acted as a huge support system during the big moment. For Zimmerman, the win was especially meaningful because her husband ran the course last year and her kids have competed in American Ninja Warrior Junior.

Well into its 11th season, the NBC show has seen a wide range of competitors over the years, including Zimmerman, who competed on seasons eight and nine but never made it past the second obstacle — until now! A physical education teacher from Spokane, WA, Zimmerman, was also a judo champion and played college basketball at Gonzaga University, so she's definitely no stranger to a good workout. While the Warped Wall was a challenge for her, Zimmerman had a crowd of friends and family to cheer her on to "beat that wall!" and she did just that.

"Everybody should dream big dreams, and I mean BIG dreams," Zimmerman said after her win. Watch her history-making moment and check out a few reactions to her run of the course ahead.
