Serena Williams Wimbledon Runner-Up Speech For Moms 2018

Serena Williams Dedicates Wimbledon Performance to Fellow Moms: "I Was Playing for You"

Serena Williams is the definition of hard work and determination. The 36-year-old tennis pro recently powered her way through Wimbledon, and while she didn't end up taking home the title at the women's final, she continues to inspire people everywhere — especially moms. During an emotional runner-up interview, that left pal Meghan Markle in tears, Serena dedicated her Wimbledon journey to her fellow moms.

The interviewer told Serena, "There are moms everywhere saying, 'How has she done this?'" and called her a "super human" and "super mom." While Serena humbly brushed aside the praise, she said she played for all the moms out there. "I tried," Serena tearfully shared while the crowd cheered.

Serena's incredible efforts definitely don't go unnoticed, especially to her husband and biggest fan Alexis Ohanian. He posted an Instagram after the women's final concluded, reminding everyone that after Serena's life-threatening pregnancy complications, her journey is nothing short of incredible. She had to make sacrifices to get back to Wimbledon, including missing her daughter Alexis Olympia's first steps, but like her husband wrote, she's got "the greatest (trophy) waiting at home for her," and Serena's "just getting started."
