Although Will and Jada Smith are often candid about what it's like raising their children — Jaden and Willow [3] — the 50-year-old dad of three recently opened up about his relationship with his 26-year-old son, Trey, whom he shares with his first wife Sheree Zampino. He posted an Instagram video on Nov. 27 detailing how the father-son experience hasn't always been easy for the pair [4].
"It has not always been like this between Trey and [me]," he wrote in his Instagram caption. "We STRUGGLED FOR YEARS after my divorce from his mother. He felt betrayed and abandoned. It is a wild blessing to recover and restore a loving relationship with my beautiful son!"

According to the video, Trey and Will's relationship has been on the mend. In fact, he invited him along on a recent trip to Abu Dhabi.
"I'm in Abu Dhabi at the F1 [Formula 1 Grande Prix]. I brought my son, Trey," he said in the video. "We've been hanging and I usually take my kids separately on stuff just so they have their individual daddy time."
Will admitted that he and Trey had a deep conversation about how much their relationship has improved over the years, and clearly, he was touched. "So we've been doing this, hanging at the F1, and he just hit me with a 'You know what dad? I just realised you're not just my dad. I'm pretty sure you're my best friend,'" Will explained. "I was like, 'Yeah man, prolly. Prolly.'"
