Town Threatens to Jail Kids Over 12 For Trick-or-Treating

1 Virginia Town Is Threatening to Jail Kids Over 12 Who Trick or Treat, and Yup, We're Serious

Imagine going to jail for Trick or Treating

If you were thinking about letting your kiddos trick or treat in Cheasapeake, VA, you may want to think twice before getting too excited. According to a now-viral Facebook post, children older than 12 years old could be fined or jailed for participating in the Halloween tradition. And yes, unfortunately the rule seems to be serious.

The post reads: "Trick or treat hours will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 31 for children 12 and under. If any person over the age of 12 years shall engage in the activity commonly known as 'trick or treat' or any other activity of similar character or nature under any name whatsoever, he or she shall be guilty of a misdemeanour and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $25.00 nor more than $100.00 or by confinement in jail for not more than six months or both."

All we can say is wow. But sadly, this isn't the first time we've seen this superstrict trend. Just last year, a town in Canada banned teens over the age of 16 from going trick-or-treating. We'll probably avoid going door-to-door in Cheasapeake at all costs. After all, there's no sense in getting in trouble for something so wholesome, right?
