Laci Ping and husband Curtis Mullins wanted to keep their grey tabby cat, Mayson, safe during the wildfires tearing through Northern California. However, after evacuating Mayson, he escaped from his carrier when he was spooked by a loud nearby explosion. Devastated, Laci and Curtis thought they had lost their kitty for good until they stumbled across a Facebook post from UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital showing recently rescued pets whose owners were missing. In a happy turn of events, Laci and Curtis were reunited with Mayson — who had gotten burned on all four of his legs — and the moment is the epitome of emotional. Mayson is expected to recover at the hospital for another week before he's released to his parents.
