This Woman Thought She Had Food Poisoning Until She Gave Birth to a Baby Boy

Patricia Crawford and her husband Evan Darragh — a couple from Keyport, New Jersey, USA — got the surprise of a lifetime on March 28 after Patricia spent the night in the bathroom battling what she thought was a case of food poisoning. That is, until her newborn son made his debut around 5 a.m. [1]

"By the time I got back to the toilet area, all of a sudden a baby came sliding out [2]," Patricia told News 12. "It was just like . . . 'Oh my God. What are we even going to do?' We [didn't] have a nappy, a wipe, an outfit, a onesie. Nothing."

Something else Patricia didn't have? Pregnancy symptoms over the course of the previous months [3] — she said they were pretty much non-existent, though she had the occasional stomach pain and may have felt a flutter a few weeks prior. Although Patricia had no clue she was pregnant, her surprise son came at the perfect time: exactly one year after her father's death. "I was kind of just getting through day by day, keeping myself as busy as possible," she said of how she handled her grief. "Just zooming around."

The couple — who had been trying to get pregnant for some time — are embracing their new roles as mum and dad. "I think my sister said it best," Patricia said. "She [said] it was like my dad came from heaven and said 'you will no longer be sad on March 28 ever again.' And it's really the best thing in the world." Congrats to the happy family!
