Alyssa Scott's Tribute to Late Son Zen

Any Parent Will Connect With Alyssa Scott's Touching Tribute to Her and Nick Cannon’s Late Son

One day after Nick Cannon made the heartbreaking announcement that his and Alyssa Scott's five-month-old son Zen had died on Dec. 5, Scott shared her grief in a moving Instagram post.

Scott included a video featuring clips and photos of her infant son throughout his short life, and she wrote an accompanying message:

"We were a team, both determined to see it through. It feels unbearable running without you now. I can't."

"Oh my sweet Zen," she wrote on Wednesday. "The soreness I felt in my arm from holding you is slowly fading away. It's a painful reminder that you are no longer here. I caught myself looking in the backseat as I was driving only to see the mirror no longer reflecting your perfect face back at me. When I close a door too loudly I hold my breath and wince knowing a soft cry will shortly follow. It doesn't come. The silence is deafening."

She continued: "These last five months, we have been in this race together. We would hand the baton off to each other. You kept me going. It would be the middle of the night and you would smile at me. A surge of energy would fill my body and pure joy would radiate from within me. We were a team, both determined to see it through. It feels unbearable running without you now. I can't."

Cannon previously revealed that Zen was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, which is the buildup of fluid in the brain, and after undergoing brain surgery and having a shunt inserted to drain the fluid, Zen's condition took a turn for the worse. On his daytime talk show, Cannon praised Scott for "the strength" she's shown during this tragic time.

In her tribute, Scott, who also has a daughter from a previous relationship, added that "in this moment," she felt herself being carried: "By your sister. By God. By complete strangers encourageing me to not give up."

She concluded the message with her son's birth date and the date of his passing, but made it clear that his short life won't be forgotten: "It has been an honour and privilege being your mommy. I will love you for eternity."
