Moana, Tiana, Lightning McQueen, and More Beloved Characters Getting Their Own Disney+ Shows

During its 2020 Investor Day on Dec. 10, Disney shared an overwhelming number of announcements regarding its plans for series, shorts, and feature films over the next few years. From movies coming out in 2021 to shows coming out in 2023, there's no shortage of Disney things to be thrilled about.

Although we can't wait for the new films that are on the way, we're definitely most excited and curious about the upcoming Disney+ exclusive shows. While some are brand-new concepts, many will feature beloved Disney characters such as Moana, Tiana, Lightning McQueen, and the loveable pooch from Up, Dug.

New Animated Series Coming to Disney+ in 2021

  • Pixar Popcorn — January 2021: This new series will feature a collection of mini shorts staring Pixar characters.
  • Dug Days — Fall 2021: Starring Up's Dug, this new animated series will be comprised of shorts about the hilarious mishaps that occur in Dug's everyday life.

New Animated Series Coming to Disney+ in 2022

  • Baymax — Early 2022: The animated series will follow the beloved character Baymax on adventures in the fantastical city of San Fransokyo.
  • Zootopia+ — Spring 2022: This animated series will delve deeper into the lives of the characters living in the city of Zootopia.
  • Cars — Fall 2022: Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater go on a cross-country road trip in this series.
  • Iwájú — TBD 2022: This all-new series is a collaboration between Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pan-African comic book entertainment company, Kugali. It will explore "deep themes of class, innocence and challenging the status quo," according to a press release.

New Animated Series Coming to Disney+ in 2023

  • Win or Lose — Fall 2023: Pixar's first long-form series will follow a middle school softball team in the week leading up to their championship game. Each episode will be from the point of view of a different character.
  • Moana, The Series — TBD 2023: This long-form musical series will follow Moana on her adventures beyond the reef.
  • Tiana — TBD 2023: Tiana is the first Disney Princess to have her own show! The long-form musical-comedy series will share Tiana's life in both the kingdom of Maldonia and New Orleans.
