4 Olympics Movies You'll Want to Watch With Your Kids (and They're All on Disney+!)

16/06/2021 - 05:07 PM

Truth be told, there aren't very many movies out there for kids about the Olympics — sports movies, sure, but there's nothing quite like the rush of watching athletes compete for the gold. To get your kids excited for the 2021 summer games, we're rounding up the few Olympics movies — plus one that's basically about the Olympics — that you can totally watch as a family with your younger kids. Ironically, they're all winter movies, but it's the general competitive spirit we're looking to embrace, you know?

Keep reading to learn more about each one and to see where they're streaming (spoiler: they're all on Disney+!).

Miracle

What it's about: "Miracle tells the story of Herb Brooks, the player-turned-coach who started with a handpicked group of 26 undisciplined kids and coached them to play like they never played before, turning 20 of them into a team that believed they could achieve the unachievable."

Ages it's best suited for: 8 and up

D2: The Mighty Ducks

What it's about: "The Mighty Ducks are thrilled to be chosen to compete in the Junior Goodwill Games as Team USA. They'll be facing off against the best teams from all over the world---including the meanest team that ever sliced up the ice."

Ages it's best suited for: 8 and up

*OK, so this one isn't about the Olympics, but the Junior Goodwill Games are basically the Olympics for kids, so we're letting it slide because The Mighty Ducks franchise rules.

Cool Runnings

What it's about: "Based on a true story, four Jamaican athletes go to extremes to compete as bobsled racers at the Winter Olympics. With virtually no clue about winter sports, it's an uphill course for this troupe from the tropics as they go for the gold in Canada. After enlisting some professional help, it's now up to a reluctant ex-champion American slider to bring a team of complete novices up to Olympic speed."

Ages it's best suited for: 8 and up

Ages it's best suited for: 12 and up
