Not only were identical twins Brie and Nikki Bella pregnant at the same time, but they both welcomed baby boys [1] just a day apart. After sharing nearly identical birth announcements [2], the new moms then waited almost a month to reveal their sons' names: Matteo and Buddy.
Along with fiancé Artem Chigvintsev, Nikki welcomed her first child, a son named Matteo Artemovich, on July 31. The name Matteo, which is of Italian origin [3] and means "gift of god," has become more popular in recent years. In 2018, it was the 196th most popular name [4] for boys as Nikki spells it, though Mateo with one T was 37th most popular that same year. As for his middle name, Artemovich, it appears to be a nod to his dad's first and middle names — Artem Vladimirovich — joined together.
Brie, who also shares 3-year-old daughter Birdie with husband Daniel Bryan, welcomed a son named Buddy Dessert [5] on Aug. 1. Although Buddy is definitely a less popular name than Matteo at present time, the name had its run in the Social Security Administration charts, where it was in the top 1,000 names [6] between 1900 and 1988. It reached peak popularity as the 202nd most-popular name for boys born in 1935. As for his sweet — literally — middle name, Dessert, it's not one we've ever heard given, but we'd guess that it has a cute personal meaning behind it.
Congratulations to both Bellas and their families on the arrivals of their boys! Keep reading to get first peeks at both Matteo and Buddy.
