Chrissy Teigen on Stranger's Kindness After Pregnancy Loss

Chrissy Teigen Recalls Stranger's Striking Gesture of Kindness After Pregnancy Loss

In the months following her heartbreaking pregnancy loss, Chrissy Teigen has been vocal about the sadness, pain, and confusion she's experienced as a result. "I look back on it, and it feels like such a blur," she told The Today Show on Monday, reflecting on the loss of her son Jack halfway through her pregnancy. "It's like being on a roller coaster and holding your breath and then not really remembering it at the end. I just know that the way we shared it was super hard, and it was super hard for John. But for some reason, I knew that it would help a lot of people."

In honour of National Infertility Awareness week, Chrissy reflected on a brief interaction with a stranger that opened her eyes to the importance of offering support to others navigating their fertility journeys. "There was one moment that really struck me, and that was being at the grocery store and somebody just quietly laying flowers in my cart," she said. "And then I realised that there's so many women that don't get this kind of attention because they're living through this privately and quietly . . . For me, that was a very defining moment."

"Over the past few months I've met other women who are facing fertility challenges and realised there is a community out there so no one has to face this alone."

From that moment, Chrissy was inspired to use her platform as a celebrity to create an open dialogue about infertility and give families hope along their journeys. Recently, she became a spokesperson for Fertility Out Loud, a campaign that offers resources, answers and a sense of community to those on a fertility journey. "You guys know (or now you do) that John and I went through IVF to get pregnant with Luna and Miles," Chrissy captioned an Instagram post on Monday. "What you might not know is how isolating fertility issues can be. Over the past few months I've met other women who are facing fertility challenges and realised there is a community out there so no one has to face this alone."

The overwhelming support John and Chrissy received from friends and family following the announcement of their pregnancy loss was a comfort during a painful time, and Chrissy hopes to reflect that same hope and positive energy out into the world through her work with Fertility Out Loud. "Seeing people rally around us has been really beautiful," Chrissy told People in March while reflecting on the support she and John have since received. "There have been things in the past year that I never thought John would have to see, but it's also been so wonderful that we have prevailed and still see each other with so much more love than we could have ever, ever imagined ever in our lives. Whatever love we put out into the world 10 years ago, we're getting it back tenfold. I feel every piece of love from everybody around the world."

Most importantly, Chrissy hopes to inspire others who've been on the same journey to share their stories and contribute to building a community where anyone who's experienced a pregnancy loss or infertility issues can band together to support one another. "There's so many different ways to make your dream happen now," she said. "Coming to terms with the fact that I can't carry again has been something really tough, and I've agonized over it, because to me, it's when I'm at my happiest. I loved being pregnant, and the fact I got to do it twice, I think was miraculous enough . . . I think the more we share our stories, the more people realise that they connect with one of those stories . . . There's something so beautiful about that."
