Chrissy Teigen Calls to "Normalize Formula" in Characteristically Candid Twitter Thread

Chrissy Teigen Calls to "Normalize Formula" on Twitter

Chrissy Teigen is encourageing moms to do not only what's best for their babies, but also their own well-being. The famously candid multihyphenate issued a call to "normalize formula" in a series of tweets shared on Sunday. Though she acknowledged the "wonderful" strides made in society's treatment of breastfeeding, Chrissy said she "felt way more shame" when she decided to use formula while dealing with the effects of postpartum depression following the birth of her first child, Luna.

"You are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama."

"People have surrogates, people have trouble breastfeeding and all you hear as a new, anxious mom is how breast is best," Chrissy said. She also reflected on exhaustively pumping — worried about her babies effectively latching — to then only be able to produce an ounce of breastmilk. She added, "The stress of it, combined with the guilt that you cannot do nature's most natural thing for your own baby is too much. I dunno why this is my crusade now. I just remember the sadness I felt and want you to know you are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama."

At the start of the thread, Chrissy said she knew it would become a "thing." And sure enough, it did, with her first tweet receiving over 168,500 "likes" at press time. Several public figures also replied, including Casey Wilson, who tweeted, "Thank you for this. Truly," and Olivia Wilde, who simply said, "Amen sister." Meanwhile, Phenomenal CEO Meena Harris, who is also the niece of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, replied, "Raise your hand if you were formula fed." She added, "Also exclusive breastfeeding is a privilege not available to most working women."
