Douglas Emhoff is celebrating Read Across America Day in a big way! The first-ever second gentleman partnered with The Conscious Kid [3] — an organisation dedicated to equity and promoting healthy racial identity among children — to host a virtual story time for kiddos [4].

"It is our absolute privilege to host @SecondGentleman Douglas Emhoff in this very special story time," The Conscious Kid captioned its Instagram video. "In celebration of Read Across America Day and Women's History Month, Mr. Emhoff is reading the book I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark [5] by Debbie Levy and Elizabeth Baddeley. We hope you love it as much as we do!"

Geared towards kiddos between the ages of four and six years old, I Dissent: Ruth Bader Ginsburg Makes Her Mark, gives an age-appropriate look into Ruth's accomplishments while illustrating that standing against injustices doesn't make you disagreeable.

Founded in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America Day "focuses on motivating children and teens to read [7] through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone," says its website.

According to President Joe Biden [8], there are numerous benefits of getting lost in a good book [9]. "Reading broadens our perspective, introduces us to new worlds, cultures, and languages, and cultivates our sense of empathy and understanding of other people's experiences and views," he said in a White House brief. "Reading informs us, empowers us, and teaches us the lessons of history. It helps us make sense of the world as it is — and inspires us to dream of what it could be."
