Emma Roberts Welcomed Her Son Late in 2020, and We Love His Unique Name
Emma Roberts is a mom! The Holidate actress went dark on social media from Dec. 21, 2020, until Jan. 12, but it was worth the suspense, as she came back ready to introduce to the world her son with boyfriend Garrett Hedlund. And we're obsessed with his name: Rhodes! "Thank you 2020 for getting one thing right ☀️ Our bright light Rhodes Robert Hedlund," Emma captioned her first photo with her little one.
According to Nameberry, Rhodes means "where roses grow," which could be a fun nod to Emma's middle name, Rose. The name, which has Greek origins, is a fairly unique one and is more commonly seen as a last name. It hasn't appeared in the Social Security Administration's top 1,000 names at any point since 1900, unlike Rhodes's middle name, Robert, which has consistently been in the top 100 for over a century. It's possible he was given the middle name Robert in honour of his paternal grandpa, Robert Hedlund, or that it was used as the first-name version of Roberts — or both!
