Eva Mendes [1] and her husband, Ryan Gosling [2], are no strangers to being in the spotlight, which is exactly why they've decided to keep their children off of social media [3] for as long as possible. In a recent Instagram post sharing one of her favourite René Magritte paintings, Eva wrote, "Since I don't post my about immediate family, and it feels so wrong to post about work, here you go." When a follower asked about her decision to keep her family off of the internet, Eva had a fantastic response.
"I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids. I'll talk about them, of course, with limits, but I won't post pictures of our daily life," Eva wrote. She added, of her and Ryan's two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada [4]: "And since my children are still so little and don't understand what posting their image really means, I don't have their consent. And I won't post their image until they're old enough to give me consent. As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way, to stay private."
Celebrities like Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway [6] have also made a point of keeping their children off of social media; and in the past, Mila Kunis [7] and Ashton Kutcher [8] have openly expressed the same concerns as Eva, adding that they want their children to be able to stay out of the public spotlight until they are old enough to make that decision for themselves.
