Jimmy Kimmel never shies away from politics. However, in an Oct. 22 episode of his late-night show, the father of four [1] made it personal by opening up about his 3-year-old son Billy's preexisting condition. To show how vital having American health insurance cover preexisting conditions [2], he debuted a video made by his wife [3], Molly, which documents how Billy was diagnosed with congenital heart defects at birth as well as the treatments he's needed since.
"I want to bring us back to focus on something we can't afford to forget and that is healthcare," he said. "The vast majority of this country agrees that health insurance should cover Americans with preexisting conditions. But the Republican party — and that includes the President and members of Congress — the only plan they have is to do away with protections for preexisting conditions."
After noting that "millions of people are gonna suffer" if preexisting conditions are no longer covered by the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the host took the time to remind Americans of how important this presidential election is.
