Kate Hudson [3] is opening up about her life as a coparent to her three children [4], all of whom have different dads. She shares her oldest child, 17-year-old Ryder, with ex-husband Chris Robinson; her middle child, 9-year-old Bingham, with ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy; and her youngest, 2-year-old Rani Rose [5], with her current boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa.

"I've got multiple dads, I've got kids all over the place," Kate joked in an interview with Today's Willie Geist.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, life has obviously slowed down quite a bit for the actress, even with three kids at home. But that said, Kate's experience of being in the house with her family is quite relatable.

"I wanna be like, 'Yeah, it's so great and . . . we're figuring it out,' but the reality is that there are days that are great, and there's days that I have to remind myself to be grateful," Kate said. "I chose to be an actor and a traveller. I never thought in a million years that I'd spend a year in one place. When you have so many kids, sometimes you have those moments where you're hiding in your bathroom going, 'Please, please, get me out of here!'" She added, acknowledging how fortunate she is to be at home with her healthy family, "I just remind myself there's a lot of people out there who have lost their loved ones, and we just gotta stay in for a bit."

Kate said that though her career is important to her, her family is of the highest priority. "The only expectations I really have that are really high on my life is with my kids and with family stuff. Other than that, it's like, I just let it go . . . I work my ass off, and then I walk away, and I hope for the best."

And while her dedication to her kids is apparent, Kate touched on her lack of relationship with her own father, actor and musician Bill Hudson. Referring to her relationship with her father, Kate said, "It's a 41-year-old issue." She added: "I think that estrangement is unfortunately quite common, and I think it's important for people to talk about that. Sometimes we need a little bit of talk and humour to move us into places where we can heal some of the wounds that have affected us, from our families."

Kate said of her and her brother Oliver's mother, Goldie Hawn, and their stepdad, Kurt Russell [8]: "I have a great family. I have a beautiful mother. I have a stepfather who stepped in and played a huge, huge part in sharing what it is to have a dependable father figure in our life. But it doesn't take away from the fact that we didn't know our dad. I think as I've sort of gone through that process . . . I kind of look at my dad and I'm like, you know, the love has never ever gone anywhere. It's always been there, no matter what those complications have been. And healing is . . . personal, and I think people sometimes just need to hear that they're not alone in that."
