Man Helps Wife Deliver Baby in a Bath Tub

A New Dad Had to Help Deliver His Baby in a Bathtub After a Hospital Told Him and His Wife to Go Home

A couple from Virginia, USA got more than they bargained for when they delivered their first child all by themselves. After being sent home from the Naval Medical Centre Portsmouth on Aug. 23, Leo and LeeAnn Bienaime welcomed their son in their bathtub.

"I was told that I should come back when my contractions were when you can't really walk and you can't really talk through them," LeeAnn, who claims to have a very high pain tolerance, told WTKR. After driving 25 minutes home, LeeAnn realised the labour process was speeding up. After making several trips to the toilet, she was able to feel her son's head.

Although she tried her best to wait for medical professionals, LeeAnn had to let nature take its course. She quickly climbed into the bath while Leo called 911 and waited for an ambulance to arrive. A few minutes later, LeeAnn officially became a mum. While she's thrilled to have given birth to a beautiful baby boy with her husband's assistance, she doesn't wish her experience on anyone.

"We were able to have a healthy birth, a healthy baby boy, that's why I'm not completely enraged," LeeAnn explained, emphasising that she would've rather had a doctor deliver her son. "I feel like if it had gone another way, it would've been a different story.

Leo, who's thrilled to be a father, added: "Everyone that we showed the picture to was like, 'Wait . . . why is there shampoo in the background?' Don't try this at home. . . If I could do it again, I would've just sat in the waiting room and not left. We would've pitched a tent. We would've started a fire. We would've just straight-up camped."

The Naval Medical Centre Portsmouth released a statement afterwards, saying:

"Naval Medical Centre Portsmouth is committed to ensuring the safety of every patient and providing high quality care," read the statement. "Whenever a patient has a concern about their care and treatment, we welcome the opportunity to discuss this with them and resolve any potential issues. Due to HIPAA, we cannot discuss anything specific on an individual's medical treatment without their authorisation. The patient has been contacted directly about her care while here at NMCP."
