Maren Morris on Mom-Shaming From Fellow Mothers: "It Obviously Comes From a Deep Insecurity"

If you mom-shame Maren Morris on Instagram, she's just going to turn the comments off and keep living her life. The singer, who became a mom to a baby boy named Hayes in March, did just that when haters began judging her in the comments of a photo of herself and Hayes relaxing on a giant pool float. In the photo, Maren is holding onto her 4-month-old as they float in adorable matching swimsuits. Now, she's telling Andy Cohen what she thinks about the people — especially the fellow moms — who shamed her for sharing the snap.

"I don't think I'm gonna show his face in photos on social media anymore," Maren told Andy during a virtual interview for Watch What Happens Live. "I would just have to say to anyone that is a mother who is shaming another mother: it obviously, I think, probably comes from just a deep insecurity in your own motherhood that you have to criticize someone else that's especially brand new at this. We all feel like we suck in the beginning anyways. I'll just say, I'm going to be a little more private about him."

Maren continued, saying that even though it's been fun sharing photos of Hayes, the people who feel they have the right to publicly shame her are ruining it. "I can take someone saying my music sucks or like I'm ruining country music, but for some reason, the mother card I just can't emotionally handle right now. I was like, I'm just going to protect myself and him from it."

In terms of the source photo that brought on this change in her not wanting to share her son openly, Maren said, "He was completely safe, we were tied to a dock, I was in a foot of water on a float to get a photo." Andy chimes in to say, "People are assholes on social media," to which Maren responds, "They really are." Amen, y'all.
