Meghan Trainor and her Spy Kids alum husband, Daryl Sabara, are officially parents! The couple welcomed their first child on Feb. 8, and his name is common enough that you know it well, but uncommon enough that it stands out a bit: Riley!
"This sweet baby boy's due date was today on Valentine's Day," Meghan wrote in her Instagram announcement. "We got to meet him Monday, Feb 8th! We are SO IN LOVE🥰😠Thank you @darylsabara for the best Valentine's gift ever! Welcome to the world Riley!" Daryl also shared the news on his account, adding a note to Meghan: "You are my forever Valentine and I'm so beyond grateful for you bringing our son into the world."
The name Riley — which, according to Nameberry, has Irish origins and means "courageous" [3] — hasn't left the top 1,000 baby names [4] for boys since the Social Security Administration began keeping track of name data in 1900 [5], but its popularity has been all over the place. It broke into the top 100 names for boys [6] just once in 2002 at position 99, but most recently, it was ranked 263rd most popular in 2019. When applied to the data for girls, Riley has only been in the top 1,000 since 1990, but has remained within the top 100 names for girls [7] consistently since 2002.
