Michael Jordan's Daughter Googled Who Her Dad Was After Teachers Told Her That He Was "Incredible"
Apparently, Michael Jordan wasn't exactly forthcoming when it came to telling his five children just how famous he was! In a virtual interview with Good Morning America, two of his kids — 27-year-old Jasmine and 31-year-old Jeffrey — discussed what it was like to grow up with a world-famous basketball player as a dad and their thoughts on the ESPN docuseries, The Last Dance.
"I had kids and teachers and stuff at school telling me 'It's incredible your father is who he is.' And I'm thinking, 'You all haven't met my father to my knowledge, so how do you know this?' So I did, I Googled him. And I found a lot clearly," she said. "So I had that conversation with my father afterward and he just laughed and was like, 'Hey, there's no way to really tell you anything like that.' But between him and my mom, they made sure that we felt like he was normal as can be and we grew up very normal and for that I'm grateful."
Because Jasmine was just a child at the height of her father's fame, she appreciates that The Last Dance shows her snippets of her dad's 15-season career. "It's been eye-opening. I was so young at the time . . . now I'm understanding the chaos and everything that was happening," Jasmine added. "So it's been a joy, really, to watch and I think like everybody else we're sad that it's over."
"We felt like he was normal as can be and we grew up very normal and for that I'm grateful."
Jeffrey agreed, noting that the docuseries has been especially interesting for him, since it shows another point of view. "We got to see him when he came home and was done with work for the day or the night, but being able to see him in his element, in his atmosphere with the team and see all the ups and downs throughout that season has been a treat to watch," he explained.
He also learned about his dad's teammates, who were talented players in their own rights. "You would hear those things here and there off the court, but for the most part all those little details about the team . . . his teammates' stories as well, were all eye-opening and new for me," he said referring to players like Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. "It was great to hear those things and see those guys doing what they do."
Unsurprisingly, Michael had a competitive streak when it came to raising his children. Looking back, Jasmine and Jeffrey appreciate it. "He was tough, it was competitive," said Jeffrey. "We always felt like the competitive atmosphere shaped us in a way that was for the better and got us prepared for what we were gonna face in the real world. We embraced it, but definitely, the switch was on."
