In a heartfelt Instagram post on May 2, Rebel Wilson turned to fans for support after opening up about her fertility journey. "I got some bad news today and didn't have anyone to share it with . . . but I guess I gotta tell someone," Rebel wrote. "To all the women out there struggling with fertility, I feel ya. The universe works in mysterious ways and sometimes it all doesn't make sense . . . but I hope there's light about to shine through all the dark clouds."

During an interview with E! News in November, Rebel shared that she'd been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome [3]. "I started gaining weight when I was about 20," she said. "I had something called PCOS — polycystic ovarian syndrome [4] — and I gained weight rapidly. . . . I like being all sizes. It's just now turning 40, I am more health conscious and thinking of starting a family."

"I woke up this morning and read through everyone's kind messages and stories about their journeys and I can't tell you how much that meant to me."

As part of her "year of health" in 2020 [5], the Pitch Perfect star opened up about her decision to freeze her eggs during an Instagram Live on Dec. 1. "I was thinking about fertility and having good-quality eggs in the bank, so I was like, 'OK, I'm going to do this, I'm going to get healthy,'" she said.

While Rebel didn't go into specifics about her fertility journey in her post on May 2, followers were quick to show their support for her experience and empathize with her pain. "Remember it's ok to feel this way," one fan commented. "Sitting with our emotions [is] important. I hope one day soon things work in your favour." Several other users shared their own fertility stories in the comments section, stressing the fact that Rebel is not alone. In fact, about 12 percent of women [6] between 15 and 44 in the United States experience difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the CDC.

Several hours after the initial Instagram post went live, Rebel updated her caption, writing: "***UPDATE*** just wanted to say I woke up this morning and read through everyone's kind messages and stories about their journeys and I can't tell you how much that meant to me and has made me feel a lot better today. Social media for the win here in terms of creating connection when I was in a very lonely place. So thank you everyone."

Fertility is unique to every individual and can sometimes pose heartbreaking challenges [7], but having open conversations about these struggles is important and we wish Rebel the best of luck on her fertility journey ahead.
