Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli welcomed their first child together on April 11, and I am positively *obsessed* with their daughter's name: George Elizabeth. And no offence to Kate Middleton, but I think this George is going to be the one to bring the name back into the top 100 baby names of the year.
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA)'s data [1], the name George was the 133rd most popular name for boys in 2020 [2], but has yet to break even the top 1,000 names [3] for girls (which isn't too surprising, as George isn't a gender neutral name we hear often, if ever). George's middle name [4] Elizabeth, however, has been popular since the SSA started collecting baby name data in 1900. It debuted at number six and stayed there for six years, dipping as low as 26th most popular but never reaching as high as six again. Most recently, in 2020, it was ranked sixteenth most popular for girls, specifically.
Samira shared the news of her daughter's birth on Mother's Day [6], writing a sweet note for both George and Lauren. "Happy 1st Mother's Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George," Samira wrote. "Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother's Day two ladies could ask for." Lauren also announced George's birth on Instagram, writing: "4 weeks ago today, our daughter came into the world and changed everything. We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired."
