A Teacher Hilariously Remixed "I Will Survive," Because We All Could Use a Laugh Right Now

For educators who had to transition seemingly overnight to teaching all of their classes virtually, getting familiar with technology and prepping lessons has been incredibly stressful. Of course, we are utterly appreciative of all the hoops teachers are jumping through, but Michael Bruening, an associate professor of history and political science at Missouri University of Science and Technology, opted to channel his woes into a hilarious remix of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

In the now-viral YouTube video, Michael lays out all the challenges that come with teaching students outside of the classroom, such as navigating tools like Zoom and Panopto and dealing with pupils coughing and accidentally muting their microphones. Meant to be lighthearted, Michael just wanted to give his fellow teachers a laugh during these uncertain times.

"Mostly, I just wanted to bring a little levity to what I know is a stressful time for faculty everywhere making this transition," he told Inside Higher Ed. "I am overwhelmed by the positive response so far, and I am extremely gratified that the song seems to have brought just a little joy to people during this crisis." With nearly 100,000 views on YouTube, it appears Michael has done just that. Keep the music coming!
