Considering the Great Dane can stand as tall as 32 inches [1] at the shoulder, it's no wonder that some people find this giant of a breed pretty intimidating. However, this imposing pup (which is known as the "Apollo of dogs") only looks scary, as Great Danes have a reputation for being quite sweet [2] and docile. These gentle giants are most easily recognised for their muscular bodies, expressive faces, and — of course — their towering height, though their coats can come in six different colours [3], including fawn, brindle, blue, black, harlequin, and mantle.
