Cats are notorious for their wit, adorable mischievousness [1], and their loyalty to their owners once they see them as a member of their pack [2] – in short, cats are one of the most incredible pets you can have. And did we mention how cute they are, too?! We're forever obsessed with our feline friends [3], so it's only natural to wonder what cat breed we would be in another life. From long-haired fluffballs like Persians to the slyest of Sphynxes, we're turning to the zodiac to finally figure out what cat breed we'd be if given the chance to roam and purr like our favourite furry pals [4]. Ahead, find out what the stars have to say about what cat breed you are.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Abyssinian Cat
Our favourite perfectionists of the zodiac, Capricorns are responsible [6], dutiful, and always there for those in their inner circle. Abyssinian cats are similar, known to be quiet, intelligent, and curious in nature [7], enjoying the company of their "pack" and staying active. Just like Capricorns, Abyssinians can be a bit playful, but never careless.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Exotic Shorthair Cat
The Exotic Shorthair, made famous by Instagram kitties like delightfully-cute @snoooopybabe [8], keeps it unique in both its physical and inner traits. Marked by fluffy, plush fur and large, round eyes [9], this breed is instantly recognisable and always draws attention, much like Aquarius signs. Aquariuses tend to be esoteric [10], fiercely intelligent, lovers of freedom, and are so different they may even feel like outcasts. Exotic Shorthairs share similar traits, with a calm personality that hides intense curiosity and playfulness.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): Birman Cat
Pisces are old souls [11], with a personality that seems from another time: dreamers, romantics, intuitive, and sensitive, this sign's quiet nature hides a whole universe. Similarly, Birman cats are an age-old breed, companions to humans for many generations over, and known to be docile and quiet [12]. That being said, they are some of the smartest and most social cats, loving people but always keeping it calm, too.
Aries (March 21-April 19): Sphynx Cat
Even without a cat's trademark fur, Sphynxes are one of the best breeds out there, famous for being intensely social [13] (they love people), just a bit mischievous, and extremely intelligent. Just like Sphynxes, Aries signs love attention [14], and are known to be the centre of the party. Easily bored with a trademark unique streak, both Sphynxes and the ram sign are majorly people-oriented and always playful.
Taurus (April 20-May 20): British Shorthair Cat
Always pleasant, chill, and relaxed [15], it's easy to compare the cuddly British Shorthair to Taurus signs. The bull sign is known for being affectionate [16], loving, and a homebody at heart, feeling most comfortable in their own calm oasis, either alone or with close loved ones. Loyal, loving, and easily attaching to their pack, British Shorthairs remind us of Tauruses for their mild nature and their regal, elegant vibe.
Gemini (May 21-June 20): Bengal Cat
With many people seeing Bengal cats as a wild cat who has just become domesticated, it's easy to see this feline breed having a bit of a fierce side [17]. That being said, we can't help connect Bengals to Gemini signs, who are always charismatic, hilarious, social, energetic, and shape-shifters [18] who adjust to the room. Bengals can be a bit wild, but they're known for being sweet, loving, and loyal to their family. Just like Geminis, their savage streak makes them perceptive and adaptable with an electric personality.
Cancer (June 21-July 22): Himalayan Cat
No one does homebody like a Cancer [19] – or for that matter, Himalayans. Cancers are known for being sensitive, emotional, natural caretakers, and for always seeking comfort (and cuddles). Himalayan cats are just the same, famous for their pleasant nature [20], love of affection, and devotion to their owners. Favourite place? Their owner's lap, which is basically like a Cancer sign's trusty couch or bed.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Persian Cat
The most dignified cat [21] of them all, but also extra fluffy and cuddly, the Persian cat is basically royalty. Just like this long-haired cat, Leos are known for being lovers of luxury [22], dazzling everyone with their presence, and being just a little bit vain. That being said, just like Persians, Leos are some of the most warm and loving beings out there — their warmth is limitless and they are usually relaxed, sweet, and kind-natured.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Scottish Fold Cat
Maybe the cutest cat of them all, the Scottish Fold is gentle, and so, so cuddly [23] – but they are also well-adjusted, intelligent, and always keep their cool. Virgo signs are similar: affectionate to those they feel they can really trust, but will never be overly needy or attached. Scottish Folds love their humans, but will never be a nuisance. They also are great for training, just like a Virgo's discipline propels them to success [24].
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Siamese Cat
For Siamese cats, communication is everything, and for the ever-talkative Libras, being social butterfly is key. Siameses are one of the most intelligent cat breeds [25], sociable, and will even try to "talk" to their owners and have conversations with them. Libras are known for being extroverted [26] and hate being alone, feeling happiest when they are with the people they feel truly understand them. Siamese cats love people just as much, are similarly charming, often described as "dog-like" in their behaviour.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Siberian Cat
Although Scorpios can often get a bad rep, their seriousness and resilience is exactly what we love about them – just like the notorious Siberian cat. Siberians are strong and curious [27], alert to their surroundings, and extremely loyal to their owners. Adapted to the freezing Russian winters, they are one of the toughest breeds, reminding us of Scorpios' profound, devoted nature [28].
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Maine Coons
Friendly to a fault [29], Sagittarius signs are almost more similar to dogs than cats – so for them, a Maine Coon cat is exactly what fits best. Maine Coons are sweet, gentle, adaptable, and incredible companions to their owners. Just a little feisty (they run around like little lions), Maine Coons remind us of Sagittarius signs for their shape-shifting, curiosity, and even for their bit of recklessness.
