We've Done the Research, and These Are the Most Cracking Easter Eggs This Year

20/04/2019 - 02:20 PM

Easter is an underrated holiday. It's often overshadowed by Christmas, and if you're not religious and observing lent, it probably creeps up on you a little unexpectedly. But those extra public holidays mean many of us get a glorious four-day weekend (and short working weeks back to back on either side), which means we can spend more time with friends and family, with the perfect excuse to eat a lot of chocolate [1] for breakfast (not that we ever needed much of an excuse [2]). To ensure that your Easter weekend gets off to a cracking start, we've rounded up the best Easter eggs that the shops have to offer, from high-end and handmade to the best from our favourite supermarkets. Gone are the days of a chocolate egg in a Smarties mug — this year they're seriously innovative and cater not only to multiple tastes but multiple dietary requirement, too. Keep reading for the pick of the bunch.

Dragon Egg

Back in stock for 2019 is the hugely popular Morrison's Dragon Egg [3] (£6). They're selling quickly, so you can only buy in-store at the moment. Get down there before everyone beats you to it.

Betty's Hand-Decorated Easter Egg

Famous cafe Betty's was established 100 years ago, and they've created a pink Hand-Decorated Easter Egg [4] (£30) to celebrate the occasion.

Ruby Chocolate Diamond

When a chocolate egg just isn't fancy enough, treat yourself to an Aldi Ruby Chocolate Diamond [5] (£10)

Giant Chocolate Fried Egg

Who says your chocolates eggs have to come in their shells? We love this Choc on Choc Giant Chocolate Fried Egg [6] (£15).

Digging Bunny Half Truffle Egg

Heston Blumenthal Chocolate Scotch Egg

As expected, Heston Blumenthal's Chocolate Scotch Egg [8] (£6) for Waitrose has sold out online, but you might get lucky in your local store. The outside shell is a maple chocolate crumb, the "meat layer" is actually a smoked chocolate ganache, and the egg? That's white chocolate with a mango and yuzu mousse to replace the yolk.

Look Fantastic Beauty Egg Set

Not into chocolate? The Look Fantastic Beauty Egg [9] (£65) is packed full of cracking beauty treats that are worth a total of £249.

Soft-Boiled Egg

Trust Hotel Chocolat to come up with the goods! Its Soft-boiled Egg [10] (£10) is a bargain for luxury chocolate.

Bird Cage Easter Egg

Aldi has gone and really pulled the stops out this year. This Bird Cage Easter Egg [11] (£15) is really impressive.

Metallic Filled Easter Egg

Not only is this Gorvette and Stone Metallic Filled Easter Egg [12] (£15) handmade and hand-painted, it's also filled with truffles.

Selfridges Artisan Egg

Well, if this isn't the prettiest egg we've ever seen. It's the Selfridges Artisan Egg [13] (£30) and it is ready to be displayed in a museum. Or your kitchen counter, for Instagram shots.

Marmite Chocolate Egg

Love it or hate it? Yes, Asda has a Marmite Chocolate Egg [14] (£3), and it's a total bargain.

White Chocolate Giant Ostrich Easter Egg

Just because this Choc on Choc White Chocolate Giant Ostrich Easter Egg [15] (£20) probably could feed an entire family, that doesn't mean you have to share.

Eggs With Legs

For those of you who want your eggs with a bit of modern art, the Harvey Nichols Eggs With Legs [16] (£50) has you covered. And you can use the cup for dippy eggs and soldiers the next day.

Hard-Boiled Easter Egg

Things are getting angular with the Hotel Chocolat Hard-Boiled Easter Egg [17] (£15). This one is vegan-friendly.

Booja Booja Dairy Free Easter Egg

Another one for those avoiding dairy. Booja Booja Dairy Free Easter Egg [18] (£22) is definitely the prettiest pick of the bunch.
