Katy Perry's Stylist Designed This Cool London Hotel Room . . . but Only Half of It

01/09/2019 - 09:35 AM

A new suite at The Curtain hotel in London, codesigned by Katy Perry [1]'s stylist Johnny Wujek and minimalist fashion influencer Kaitlyn Ham, is the perfect solution if you and your travel partner can never agree on interior decor. The special room, which will only be available for one month, has a unique half-and-half design that combines the very best in maximal and minimal style, so you get the best of both worlds.

The So Extra So Chic room [2] is available to book now for a limited time via Hotels.com, and I was lucky enough to be one of the first people inside, to get a sneak peek at what's on offer. Needless to say, if you like a hotel room that's Instagram-friendly, you need look no further. Every corner is a new photo opportunity. Wujek's maximalist side of the room is definitely the most striking, with an vibe he describes as "a touch of overgrown Great Expectations with a dash of California casual". That means purple and green tropical prints, palm trees, dozens of plants, and plenty of bold brass furnishings, including some adorable monkey lamps. Ham's more pared-back side of the room is no less luxurious, but a lot more subtle, with an Eames lounge chair, textured furnishings, minimal accessories, and a neutral colour palette that she created to ensure the room "feels open and calming."

No detail is left forgotten — open the wardrobe and on one door you'll find Wujek's mood board, complete with tear sheets of rock stars like David Bowie and Elton John, while his touch appears in the otherwise clean and modern bathroom by way of hot pink accessories and bohemian glassware. It was all I could do to stop myself slipping the fuchsia and green palm print bath mat into my suitcase before I left. Even the robes provided are a 50/50 mix: one a fun retro prints, the other classic white waffle; you can argue amongst yourselves as to who gets to wear what.

All this comes with access to everything else at The Curtain, including its famous rooftop pool and Lido bar/restaurant for amazing views over the city [3] (if you were wondering where the cool kids hang out on a bank holiday weekend, this is the answer). Booking the exclusive suite starts at £250 [4], subject to availability until Sep. 30. Keep reading for a closer look at what you'll get if you do book that stay.
