Hosting a Halloween Bash This Year? Don't Miss Out on This Eerily Easy DIY

20/10/2018 - 11:03 AM

Recycle old books that you'll never read again into a library of DIY [1] Spell Books that are sure to add a spooky touch to your Halloween [2] decor. You'll even impress yourself with how great they turn out. The best part about this project: flaws are encouraged.

What you'll need:

Step 1

Cut spooky shapes from adhesive craft foam. Draw your own Halloween-inspired shapes or find some online and print them out. If you print out clip art, then simply tape the printed copy to your adhesive craft foam and cut the shape out. NOTE: Don’t worry, your shapes don’t have to be cut perfectly.

Step 2

Adhere your shapes to your book. Don’t forget you can layer your craft foam shapes to give the book covers a 3D texture. Also stick adhesive 3D letter stickers to your book. Don’t forget the spine of the book.

Step 3

Hot glue the edges of your craft foam shapes. Again, the lines don’t have to be perfect.

Step 4

Spread Mod Podge all over the book with a foam brush. Then lay a piece of crumpled tissue paper on top of the book.

Step 5

Spread more Mod Podge on top of the tissue paper. Don’t worry if the tissue paper rips. Then take a toothpick and outline the edges of your craft foam shapes and letters. Let dry.

Step 6

Paint the book black. Make sure you paint all of the nooks and crannies. Let dry.

Step 7

Dab a little bit of silver paint onto one side of your foam brush. Then lightly spread the silver paint on top of the book cover to highlight the raised portions. Let dry.

Step 8

Give your book more of a creepy vibe by adding a touch of glitter paint to it. Again, lightly spread the paint on top of the book cover’s raised portions to just give it some highlights. Let dry.
