11 Halloween Scare Parks That Will Give You Nightmares Before Christmas

19/11/2018 - 04:45 PM

If you're the type of person who likes to plan their Halloween [1] scares months in advance, a family-fun Halloween theme park [2] might not be extreme enough for you (although make sure you've been on all of these terrifying rollercoasters [3] first). Well, we've got the answer. You need a scare park. A horror house. A fear farm (seriously). You and your scream-loving pals need a one-off special event that will give you nightmares until Christmas. Take a look through our gallery of special Halloween horror events around the country. Screams are 100 percent guaranteed.

Screamfest

Screamfest, Staffordshire [4]

Five terrifying attractions in one night, featuring a "living nightmare" and a Day of the Dead tour. And, of course, everyone's own personal horror show: a scary circus. This event runs from Oct. 11 to Nov. 3, 2018. (Note that strobe lighting is used throughout.)

Xtreme Scream Park

Xtreme Scream Park, Leicester [5]

Featuring several different "scare mazes," Xtreme is considered one of the most intense scare attractions in the UK. That means it's over 16 years old only, and there are no refunds if you run out screaming (we will probably run out screaming). It runs from Sep. 28, to Oct. 31, 2018.

Scaregrounds

Scaregrounds, Yorkshire [6]

Not content with terrifying people on Valentine's Day (romantic) and at Christmas (festive fun for all the family), Yorkshire's Scaregrounds really gets going at Halloween [7]. Visit the Torture Rooms, check into Hotel Hell, or escape from The Colony. Previews Oct. 12, 13, and 14, and then the show runs from Oct. 18 to Nov. 3, 2018

Terror Mountain

Terror Mountain, Aberystwyth [8]

The most terrifying scare attraction in Wales, Terror Mountain is a mish-mash of horror genres that actually takes place at a disused silver mine. The fun starts on Oct. 19, but dates are strange with this one, so make sure you book in advance or double check before you go.

Screamland

Screamland, Margate [9]

Over Halloween [10], Kent's favourite retro seaside amusement park — Dreamland — transforms into Screamland. The organisers of the park have things pretty finely tuned, and this might not be the most terrifying experience on the list, but there are seven scare mazes to work your way around, so there are still some good jumps and screams to be had. It runs from Oct. 13 to 31, 2018.

Scream Factory

Scream Factory, Yorkshire [11]

We like that Scream Factory has different levels of fear. If you've got small kids and don't mind things getting a bit jumpy, but still want to sleep at night, you can take a twilight [12] tour. If you want your scares to be more extreme, you can book yourself in for an entire tour of terror. The fun begins on Oct. 12, 2018 and continues on various dates until Halloween [13]. Don't think too hard about what happens to the monsters on the days the event isn't running.

The Jungle Fright Night

The Jungle Fright Night, Londonderry [14]

By day, The Jungle is a playground of paint balling stag parties and hen parties being coaxed into zorbing after tequila shots. Over Halloween [15], Fright Night is added into the mix. You can get a bus from Belfast, and you if haven't been too terrified, you can stay overnight in one of the glamping pods. Dates vary, but the terror kicks off on Oct 12. 2018.

Castle Horror

Castle Horror, Dundee [16]

Dundee in Scotland has its very own scare company, hosting special chilling events around the city. They range from zombie experiences to unique special scare experiences, and this Halloween [17], they're setting up camp at Broughty Ferry Castle for a special zombie maze. They're also bringing the carnival with them, so expect a horror show of rides and attractions. Book tickets in advance for Oct. 31 2018.

Dr Frights Halloween Nights

Dr Frights Halloween Nights, Lancashire [18]

Nightmare nurses, creepy clowns, and horror movie icons. This is classic fear at its best. Best of all, there's a bar and it's all indoors which means you don't have to stand outside in the freezing cold just to get freaked out. This runs from Oct. 12, to Oct. 31, 2018

Fear at Avon Valley

Fear, Avon Valley [19]

Bristol is top of our list for scare parks in the southwest. There are four terrifying attractions, three that have won awards and a brand new event that's scaring for the first time: The House of Clowns. If you watched It from behind the sofa with the lights on, sit that one out. It runs on select nights from Oct. 19 to Oct. 31, 2018.

Farmageddon

Farmageddon, Lancashire [20]

Farmageddon is really playing scare park bingo with its 2018 attraction. Not content with zombies and a secret scare maze, the creators have also added paintball into the proceedings. The fear sets in early on Sept. 29, 2018 and continues on selected dates until Halloween [21].
