The "flyover states" — you know, those states in the middle of the country that people, literally, fly over to get to other things? Well, as much as New York City, Las Vegas, California, Florida, and other popular US hot spots sound pretty epic for a holiday locale, skipping the flyover states is a mistake.

I have been lucky enough to travel to some random places in my life, and have visited the states between the famed coasts a lot. By combining business with pleasure (bleasure, anyone?), I've seen the stunning beauty that abounds in states I may not have normally taken the time to visit. It has also helped expand my horizons, and I have a newfound appreciation of the expansiveness and diversity of the US.

So, why visit some of the states that seem almost designed to fly over? We scoped out some reasons you'll be happy you did.
