Flights running from London to Nairobi, Kenya Jomo Kenyatta Intl (NBO) with a decent airline like British Airways or Lufthansa will cost you less than £400. You can book a hotel in the city and take a day tour at Hell’s Gate National Park, which is located in the south of Lake Naivasha in Kenya, North West of Nairobi about 90 kilometres from the city.
The park is well-known for hot geysers and wildlife such as eagles and vultures, all of which can be seen while driving, walking, or camping. Cycling, rock-climbing, even horse-back riding safaris can also be arranged. It’s worth visiting the two volcanoes: Olkaria and Hobley’s. You can view the natural steam emerging from the volcanic rock as well as the black glassy stone that was formed from lava. You can admire buffalo, Masai giraffes, eland, lions, leopards, and cheetahs from a close distance.
Your day tour begins with a bicycle ride, and for an added cost you can get a driver to follow you along the path in case you get too tired and need a place to rest. The first stop is the spectacular Fisher’s Tower, and if you’re up to it you can climb the 45m tower after renting equipment on the spot and guided by local professionals. Next, you can enjoy a long and beautiful scenic ride to the infamous Hell’s Gate Gorge. Fun fact: the amazing terrain and scenery you’re about to witness inspired Disney’s Lion King. After a full day, you’ll be back in the city of Nairobi, just in time for dinner.
