If you haven't already heard the news, the CDC has officially announced that fully vaccinated individuals (which happens two weeks after your final dose) do not have to wear a mask in most indoor and outdoor settings [1]. While COVID-19 restrictions have been easing in most places due to vaccine distribution, the news came as a confusing thought for many, as most shops have their own policies when it comes to masking. For example, if you're fully vaccinated, do you still have to wear a mask to your local Walmart? If there's no mask requirement by state or local officials, there's a handful of places many of us shop at that are now allowing customers to enter mask-free (if you feel comfortable doing so).
While the rules changes are a long-awaited sign of hope for many, they're also scary for others who aren't quite ready to go mask-free. To help you plan out your next few shopping trips, we've rounded up a list of stores that have recently eased up on their mask mandates. However, please note that if you're not fully vaccinated, the CDC recommends you continue to wear a mask to protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19 [2]. Walgreens Mask Policy
Unless mandated by local or state regulations, Walgreens will no longer require masks inside its stores [4]. It's advised that those who are not vaccinated still wear masks, and Walgreens employees will still be required to wear masks while they're working.
Costco Mask Policy
Costco revised its mask policy [5] for US locations with no state or local mask requirements. The new mask policy allows fully vaccinated individuals to enter the store without a face covering. Masks will still be required in close contact healthcare settings, like its Pharmacy, Optical, and Hearing Aid Sections.
Starbucks Mask Policy
On May 17, Starbucks made masks optional to those who are fully vaccinated [6] unless local regulations or law require otherwise. For general safety, bathrooms will remain closed in stores where there is no cafe seating.
Target Mask Policy
Except where it's required by local ordinances, Target will not require fully vaccinated guests to wear masks in its stores [7].
Trader Joe's Mask Policy
Trader Joe's announced that it will no longer require fully vaccinated individuals to wear masks inside its stores [8] and will not be asking for proof of vaccination. Trader Joe's employees will still be required to wear masks.
Aldi Mask Policy
On May 18, Aldi announced that fully vaccinated customers no longer have to wear masks in stores [9]. On May 26, employees who are fully vaccinated will also not have to wear a face covering.
Walmart Mask Policy
Customers and employees who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask [10]. The same policy stands for its sister store, Sam's Club.
The Home Depot Mask Policy
Fully vaccinated customers and associates will not be required to wear a mask in stores [11] except where it's mandated by state and local ordinances.
