Do you ever feel like you spend way too much time on your smartphone? From emails to social media to apps, thinking about going without our devices for long periods of time can be a little bit scary. If you want to stay connected but seriously strip down the ways you use technology, we may have found the perfect phone for you.

The Light Phone II is a smartphone created to "be used as little as possible," according to its creators, Joe Hollier and Kaiwei Tang. The unlocked 4G LTE mobile phone, which costs $350 and comes in either black or light grey, has two primary functions: calling and messageing. There are absolutely no apps or news feeds. "A phone is a tool, and it should serve you as the user, not the other way around," the website reads. "The Light Phone II is a phone that actually respects you."

The duo released this model in 2019 after their first model, The Light Phone, quickly sold out. Although this phone is also already sold out, you can still pre-order it now for a mid-March delivery. Keep reading for more information on the phone that might just transform your entire relationship with technology.

The Light Phone II

At only 3.7 inches by 2.20 inches, The Light Phone II ($350) is barely larger than a credit card. The screen is a black and white e-ink display, unique to smartphones but similar to the display of a kindle. With light usage, the battery can last 1-3 days without charging.

The device is also lighter in weight than some popular smartphones at 2.75 ounces (78 grams). To put that in perspective, that's smaller than both the Iphone 11 (6.84 ounces) and the Samsung Galaxy s10 (5.5 ounces).

In the future, The Light Phone II will also include music and taxi functionalities, but never any social media or news feeds. The device is also kid-friendly and parents can enable additional controls through the password-protected light dashboard.
