Shine On — How to Wear Spring's Iridescent Craze Right Now

One thing was sure on the catwalks of London Fashion Week — shine is going to big come Spring.

One thing was sure on the catwalks of London Fashion Week — shine is going to big come Spring. Jonathan Saunders brought a rainbow prism effect to his high-shine metallic skirts, tops and jackets, while Christopher Bailey brought a futuristic look to Burberry Prorsum's trench coats with an iridescent finish in shades from magenta to teal, with dresses, swimsuits and skirts all getting the gloss factor too. Mulberry's shiny separates in English garden-inspired floral prints were balanced out with soft leather trousers, Antipodium layered tailored waistcoats over gold dresses, and Topshop Unique also showed how to keep iridescents low-key by teaming silver trousers and skirts with simple white tees and pastel knits. Outerwear With an Edge — London Fashion Week's Faux Fur Collars

Statement collars have been popping up on front rows and street stylers as the accessory de la semaine of London Fashion Week, not least on outerwear.

Statement collars have been popping up on front rows and street stylers as the accessory de la semaine of London Fashion Week, not least on outerwear. It's perfect to wear right now as we transition into Autumn. Fashion blogger Denni Elias proved that the style needn't be reserved for cold weather, teaming her Topshop parka with Puma shorts. While parkas are the perennial shearling lined favourite, editorial assistant Monica Ainley showed how biker jackets like her Sandro number benefit from the faux fur look too, accessorising her dark outfit with hue of the season oxblood in her Lizzie Disney bag. Stylist Louise went vintage with her blue take, opening up a world of colour choices. Shop my picks below, and tell me how you'll style it!

Haizhen Wang Wins 2012 Fashion Fringe — See His LFW Collection

The three finalists of 2012's Fashion Fringe showed their collections at Somerset House last night, with Christopher Bailey naming Haizhen Wang the winner of this year's prize.

The three finalists of 2012's Fashion Fringe showed their collections at Somerset House last night, with Christopher Bailey naming Haizhen Wang the winner of this year's prize. The Central Saint Martins graduate set up his label in 2010, after working at MaxMara and All Saints. Bailey helped the finalists in the run up to the London Fashion Week show, and Wang will continue to receive mentoring as well as studio space at Somerset House for the next four seasons. The Burberry chief creative officer told Vogue:

"I was looking for a real rounded talent with vision that he or she knew how to execute. I wanted to see an understanding of how to cut and sew; how to construct clothes; and how to create a business. Having a strong point of view was important too. With Haizhen, he has a talent that hopefully the industry will relate to. It's effortless and in his blood. When you first see his work, it appears to be very graphic and bold, but it's constructed in a very sensual way."

Mulberry Spring 2013

It couldn't get more quintessentially English than at Mulberry's Spring 2013 show on Tuesday.

It couldn't get more quintessentially English than at Mulberry's Spring 2013 show on Tuesday. The British brand took silhouette inspiration from its early years in the Seventies, and the English garden-inspired collection embraced a colour palette of rural England's blossom pastels of pear, peach, mint and cream plus school-uniform neutrals of navy, tan and black with the luxury of craft heritage. Seasonal signature prints included English florals and tropical geckos in panel-blocked contrasting colourways and multi-scale jacquards. Leather outerwear and military-inspired coats joined oversized bikers, peacoats and tailored jackets based on menswear classics. Femininity still reigned, with pleats, embroidery and frills on long summer dresses and trousers in contrasting textures of silk and soft leather. Accessories included the Flower Sandal plus Booties and Willow bags all with updated postman’s lock reworked with petals, and new floral gecko theme on the Del Rey and Alexa collections.

  • Trends: Seventies silhouettes, English garden, craft heritage, military.
  • Colors: Navy, biscuit brown, tan, black, nude, pear, light peach, apricot, mint.
  • Key Piece: The mint coat with petal buttons screams Spring.
  • Accessories: Petal hardware and floral gecko themed bags, flower sandals and booties.
  • Who Should Wear It: Front row fans Alexa Chung, Kate Moss and Olivia Palermo.

Siren Calling — Strong Red Lips Rule at Burberry

It was all about the lips as Burberry Beauty took inspiration from the strong, feminine attitude of the season’s Burberry girl.

It was all about the lips as Burberry Beauty took inspiration from the strong, feminine attitude of the season’s Burberry girl. The modern elegance of the Burberry Prorsum Spring 2013 show on Monday was matched by the makeup, with the almost bare eyes and sheer, sculpted complexion allowing the spotlight to land on new shade of Lip Velvet Siren Red, launching later this year, lined with Lip Definer in Brick Red No.05. Eyes were dressed with Sheer Eye Shadow in Gold Trench No.04 and Pale Barley No.22 plus Eye Definer Golden Brown No.06. Front row guests like Alice Eve, Gabriella Wilde, Giorgia Surina, Olivia Palermo and Victoria Pendleton also wore the brand's makeup. Louise Gray's trademark colour clashes and spectacular prints are back for Spring 2013, but the designer's latest collection also embraced sophisticated silhouettes to offer a line for a wider audience. Tailored coats, bias cut shirtdresses and knitted cardigans joined the layered pieces covered in appliqué sequins and embroidery over printed tights. The accessories were just as eye-catching, with Stephen Jones designed mirrored hats, checkered lace-up shoes, and huge Perspex geometric jewellery created in collaboration with Tatty Devine. Then of course were the three monochrome graffiti patterned Barbie-inspired pieces, which will be miniaturised for the dolls themselves.

  • Trends: Graffiti, clashing colour, pattern, sequins, embroidery, grown up silhouettes.
  • Colors: Black, white, multicolour prints in orange, lilac, aqua, greens and yellow.
  • Key Piece: The zig zag shift dress with aqua accents over black print tights.
  • Accessories: Stephen Jones mirrored hats, checkered lace-up shoes, Tatty Devine Perspex geometric earrings and mirror rings.

Philip Treacy's Tribute to Michael Jackson Lights Up LFW

Philip Treacy's London Fashion Week show got off to a dramatic start on Sunday as Lady Gaga sashayed down the catwalk in hot pink tulle.

Philip Treacy's London Fashion Week show got off to a dramatic start on Sunday as Lady Gaga sashayed down the catwalk in hot pink tulle. Inspired by Michael Jackson's tour wardrobe, the headwear Treacy created to go with each Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins designed outfit were just as out there as one would hope. From a jewel-covered mask and fairground rides to Mickey Mouse ears and Alek Wek in a white glove hat, the front row — which included Vivienne Westwood, Sarah Burton, Gareth Pugh, Nicholas Kirkwood, Anna Dello Russo, Kim Cattrall and Kelly Brook — went wild. Ivory ships with sails billowing, planetary rings and sculpted horn hats passed by until a shroud of lighting signalled the end. Take a look at the stunning collection here, and tell me what you think!

Topshop Unique Spring 2013

Topshop Unique's London Fashion Week show was the epitome of minimal and modern on Sunday.

Topshop Unique's London Fashion Week show was the epitome of minimal and modern on Sunday. The sophisticated Spring 2013 line was all about sophisticated slouch, with creative director Kate Phelan telling Fashionologie backstage that the collection was: "Cool, easy, relaxed. The whole idea was to just not let the collection get too hard or stiff, but to keep it soft, to keep it easy, to keep it very slouchy and very real." The loosely tailored silhouettes and double layering retained clean lines and a tempting wearability. It was a textural balancing act between shimmer and sheer, with a palette of black, white, cream, rose, yellow and silver in colourblock, oversized checks, and geometric prints on oversized trouser suits and jackets plus asymmetric zip sweatshirts and dresses.

  • Trends: Slouchy, cool, sheer, shimmer, clean.
  • Colors: Black, white, cream, rose, yellow and silver.
  • Key Piece: The cream jacket over monochrome sheer panel shift modelled by Cara Delevingne.
  • Accessories: Delicate white leather and clear plastic ankle-strap stilettos, silver pointed toe heels.
  • Who Should Wear It: Fans of clean lines and slouchy structure, I'd love to see Victoria Beckham in the silver trousers and sheer white tee combo.
