Not-so-fun-fact: you might have to worry about lead being in your hair dye [1] — but the good news is that the FDA has taken a major step to change that. The organisation has repealed the approval for the use [2] of toxic chemical compound lead acetate from hair colouring products. While few hair colouring products on the US market still contain lead [3], it has been in dyes sold to gradually recolour grey hair [4], NBC News reported.
Exposure to lead has been "linked to developmental issues, reduced fertility, organ system toxicity, cancer, and other serious health problems [5]," according to Melanie Benesh, legislative attorney at EWG. To that we say, good riddance.
