The FDA Acts to Remove Lead From At-Home Hair Colour

The FDA Moves to Remove Lead From Hair Colour, So You Can Dye in Peace

Not-so-fun-fact: you might have to worry about lead being in your hair dye — but the good news is that the FDA has taken a major step to change that. The organisation has repealed the approval for the use of toxic chemical compound lead acetate from hair colouring products. While few hair colouring products on the US market still contain lead, it has been in dyes sold to gradually recolour grey hair, NBC News reported.

Exposure to lead has been "linked to developmental issues, reduced fertility, organ system toxicity, cancer, and other serious health problems," according to Melanie Benesh, legislative attorney at EWG. To that we say, good riddance.
