Jordyn Woods Interview April 2019

Jordyn Woods on Wigs, Lashes, and Why She Believes "What's Online Is a Perception of Reality, It's Not Actual Reality"

Jordyn Woods has had something of a tumultuous 2019 so far, but she is not letting the drama keep her down. Instead, she's focusing on her work, and keeping things positive. Recently, that involved a trip to London, where she hosted a star-studded party to celebrate the launch of her latest beauty collaboration, Jordyn Woods x Eylure, a collection of false lashes that replicate the look of lash extensions. During her trip, Jordyn sat down with POPSUGAR to talk all things beauty and self-image.

As well as sharing her tips for perfect lash application (trim the outside, let your glue sit for a while, and practice, practice, practice), Woods chatted with POPSUGAR about her hair regimen, shared her favourite ways to practice self-care, and dished on how she feels confident when surrounded by social media criticism. Keep reading to find out what she had to say and to shop her lash collection for yourself.

On How She Prioritises Self-Care

"It's interesting, because self-care is the most important care, but it's different to everyone. Some people's version of self-care is turning off their phone; for some people, it's getting a nice facial or pampering themselves; and for me, self-care is just taking the time to do things that I feel are therapeutic and will also make me feel better. I love taking baths — that's like my new thing I love to do. Just sitting in the bath for a while, writing . . . having a book and just writing down all of my thoughts of the day. I love skin care, anything that has to do with skin care, like getting a facial."

On Wearing a Blond Wig For Her Lash Launch and Her Favourite Hairstyles

"It was kind of just like a 'launch day, let me do this for fun, change it up', and I like it, it's cool, but it was just a quick switch up, it'll be back to dark tomorrow!"

"I really did like the bob that I had; I feel like that's the longest I've kept a hairstyle in a minute . . . for a whole month, which is rare. I feel like for me, I've gone through kind of a hair 'glow-up' in a sense, to where I started kind of figuring it out. When you have supercurly hair, it's not easy, you have to have your regimen. I have superthick hair, but it's fragile, it gets dry easily, so I have just been figuring it out. I really like when I wear my natural hair in different styles, like ponytails, and the bob, because as much as I love wigs, it just doesn't feel as free as having my own hair."

The One Hair Style She's Never Tried, but Would Be Tempted By

"Shaving my head! I wouldn't 'love' to try it . . . but I would, at the same time! Something about it feels so free. But I'm not going to do that any time soon."

The Beauty Advice She'd Give to Her Younger Self

"My younger self didn't really know anything about beauty. But really, this is me speaking to my younger self or just to young girls in general, is just to really be yourself and find what works for you. What works for other people might not work for you, and that's OK. But just try new things, and just experiment, because the possibilities are endless, and you don't know until you try. Your individuality is your greatest gift, so don't beat yourself up over thinking that you have to look a certain way or be a certain way, because you are you, and that's special."

On How to Feel Confident in Yourself

"It's hard . . . even for me sometimes, I have days where I don't feel as confident, where I look at Instagram, and it's so easy to compare yourself to everything that you see online. But ultimately, what's online is a perception of reality, it's not actual reality, and people choose what they want to show."

"Understand that what you see online isn't always the truth, most of the time it's just a short moment of what that person wanted you to see. Don't compare yourself to other people, and don't put pressure on yourself to be what you think other people want you to be."
