Demi Lovato [1] has added a handful of tattoos to her collection that honour her journey to recovery. After getting the word "survivor" tattooed on her neck [2] back in December, the "Tell Me You Love Me" singer debuted another neck tattoo via social media this week.
In a selfie shared to Instagram on Sept. 3, Lovato showed off a new tattoo of a butterfly just under her ear. While she didn't specify the meaning behind her new ink, butterfly tattoos are known to represent transformation and freedom [3], so it's very possible the singer got it as another way to symbolize how far she's come after opening up about her struggles with sobriety [4] in the past.
Fans are also speculating that Lovato may have gotten the tattoo in honour of a song she's releasing soon called "Butterfly" and that the photo's caption — which reads, "Dear little me, I'm sorry that it took so long but baby your [sic] free" — may actually just be lyrics from said song, which she revealed she was writing via an Instagram Story shared last month [5].
