Big Pop Culture Moments From 2018

15 Things That Definitely Happened This Year — You Just Forgot About Them

In the last month, everything I thought I knew about everything began to unravel. I began to see tweets that made me rethink it all. Black Panther took the world by storm this year?! Are you sure that didn't happen during the prehistoric age, when dinosaurs walked the Earth?! What do you mean the Olympics happened in 2018? I'm pretty sure they were a full decade ago, and I don't want to hear your lectures about how they technically happen every two years. It was a decade, OK?! With my world turned upside down, I began to sift through the other happenings in the pop culture world from this year. It turns out, there are a lot of things that happened in the last 12 months that I totally forgot about. Are you ready to have your mind blown?!

1. Queer Eye Debuted on Netflix

That's right, the first season of the Queer Eye reboot dropped in February, and the second season dropped over the Summer. Doesn't it feel like we've known these fabulous men for way longer?!

2. The Shape of Water Won Best Picture

Even though it feels like The Shape of Water came out 50 years ago, it was actually just last year that it was sweeping audiences off their feet. And yeah, it nabbed its Oscars in March.

3. The Winter Olympics Happened

If you asked me today when the 2018 Winter Olympics happened I would have shaken like the very old Rose in Titanic and said, "It's been 84 years." But it hasn't been 84 years. It's been, like, eight months.

7. Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston Called It Quits

Even though it took five seconds for everyone to wonder whether she'd get back with Brad Pitt, I could've sworn this breakup happened ages ago.

8. Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff Split

Yeah, they broke up this year on Jan. 8, not shortly after the series premiere of Girls in 2012.

OK, so, the Tide Pod Challenge is very 2018. I guess it's less of a "that happened this year" thing and more of a "that wasn't a weird dream you had after too much wine" thing.

Frankly, I feel like this video isn't a '90s throwback, and it actually came out in the '90s.

I could have sworn "Big D*ck Energy" was a Shakespearean thing, but it turns out it didn't penetrate public consciousness until June of this year.

No, Prince Louis did not just get his driver's licence, which is totally what I thought happened this year. He actually arrived in April.

This was a huge moment in the year's box office, but for some reason, I feel like A Quiet Place has been a movie for a very long time. It hasn't!

You bet your bottom dollar that happened in May.

It came out in March! Don't believe Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh's lies.
