Everyone Is Talking About That Rendition of "Stand by Me" at the Royal Wedding

21/05/2018 - 09:55 AM

There were a lot of special moments throughout Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding [1] ceremony, but the one that's proving most popular is the gorgeous rendition of the song "Stand by Me," performed by Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir. The cover of the 1961 classic by Ben E. King was the moment when everyone watching at home (and the guests in St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle) started to get choked up.

The Kingdom Choir are a Christian Gospel group based in South East London made up of 20 singers. They've been going strong for 20 years, and the song was a huge hit with Twitter:

Imma let you finish but the Royal Wedding rendition of Stand By Me is one of the most beautiful performances of all time

A glorious Fire and brimstone African American preacher; a gospel choir nailing Stand By Me. Megan markle and, by association, the royal family have just given the British government a lesson in what an inclusive society looks like.

Stand by Me?!?! Stand by Me?!?! This might be the first time I've cried tears of joy at a stranger's wedding. #RoyalWeddding2018 [4]

Can we get a studio version of Stand By Me by the choir from the Royal Wedding? I need it in my life.

Crikey. Stand by Me. It's happening. I'm sat here like a fat old nana beaming through my tears.

"Stand By Me" has been covered by 400 singers since it was released, and it's one of the most widely recorded songs in music history. After this fantastic rendition, it's going to become an even more popular choice at weddings. Make sure you book The Kingdom Choir well in advance, they're going to be very, very busy.
